St Michael’s Hospice was established by the Freda Pearce Foundation and opened in 1984 to serve the population of Herefordshire and the surrounding counties. The continuing aim is to care for people aged 16 and over who have a life limiting illness and to support their families, friends and carers.
It has a 16-bed in-patient unit and a Day Hospice which caters for up to 14 people each day on Wednesdays and Thursdays. It operates out-patient clinics a wide range of In-Reach services and Lymphoedema care. The Hospice has a professional multidisciplinary team made up of doctors, nurses, social workers, chaplains and occupational, complementary and physio- therapists; all who have specialist skills relevant to the needs of those coping with a terminal illness.
St Michael’s simply could not survive without the help and support provided by more than 850 volunteers who give their time and energy so selflessly taking on a huge variety of roles and responsibilities. There is currently an urgent need for volunteers to staff our shop in Bromyard. For an informal chat contact Area Manager Liz Went on 07534 386434 or see www.st-michaels-hospice.org.uk
If you would like to volunteer for St Michael’s Hospice in any capacity, please get in touch with us on 01432 851000, we would be delighted to hear from you.
No charge is made for Hospice services. It costs over £4m to provide all Hospice care and as a registered charity St Michael’s relies entirely on voluntary giving for almost 90% of its income.
