Hereford woman raises £700 in fundraising trek for anxiety charity

A Hereford woman who has battled anxiety raised £700 for a charity helping others going through a similar experience.

Ellie Sullivan, 23, walked 16 miles from Bromyard to Hereford to raise the funds for Anxiety UK.

She challenged herself to complete the trek alone which she did within three hours.

She said: "I was quite nervous beforehand due to doing it alone but I felt it would be more meaningful if I did.

"Having anxiety myself, I thought it got bad during the walk I'd be able to find the inner strength to beat it and I did. The support has been amazing the last few months from my friends and family, and I'm very fortunate to have a close team I work alongside in my job.

"My sister Bobbie dropped me off in Bromyard which I'm happy about as we are very close and during the walk that kept me very motivated as I wanted to make her proud – I have always looked up to her."

Miss Sullivan, a residential support worker at Rowden House School in Bromyard, was supported by friends who passed her on the route and she had to decline the kind offers of drivers who did not know about the fundraising and were offering a lift.

"I am very proud and think it's a huge achievement for myself," she added.

"I just really wanted to do something to raise awareness and money for Anxiety UK – I made a pact with myself a few years back that I would help anyone going through anxiety or has experienced it as it can be a very scary and lonely place."

Does anybody know who owns the peacock in Collington? He was on the road yesterday and I was worried he may get hit.

VeloBirmingham UPDATE 24/03/2017 from Councillors Bruce Baker, Alan Seldon and Nigel Shaw. Following meeting between Herefordshire Council (HC) and VeloBirmingham (VB) 23/03/2017 Ward councillors, Cabinet member (roads) and officers met with two members of VeloBirmingham yesterday for an hour long meeting. • Concern at lack of consultation by VB with residents was expressed. • Concern at lack of a business case from VB was expressed. • Concern at duration of road closures was expressed by HC and discussed with all present. VB unwilling or unable to agree to shorter duration of closure but suggested that there should be opportunity for vehicles to cross the route at manned crossroads. Although HC suggested that any road closure would normally be to through traffic only, allowing residents access to frontages, VB suggested that they could only accept pedestrian access for reasons of safety. • VB stated that roads might be open sooner than the 15:30 stated time, depending on cyclists’ performance. • Concern at loss of business and loss of liberty for residents was expressed by HC. • VB suggested that there would be additional business brought by trade from visitors to Bromyard looking to view the event • VB confirmed that their company had been retained by Birmingham City Council who were running the event. VB confirmed that theirs was a private company trading for profit and not a charitable institution or a public interest company. • HC and VB confirmed that no safety case had yet been made and that any decision to permit road closures had not been made. • Cllr. Rone, cabinet member for roads asked ward councillors to request businesses affected to write to him to confirm likely loss of trade on that day. He confirmed that this, and residents’ concerns would be foremost in his mind when considering the request from VB. E&OE Nigel Shaw.

I just wondering if any councillors would like to justify the 15% rise in contributions to bromyard and Winslow council as they seam to be cutting services and responsibilities? Just had my council tax bill and bromyard and winslows councils cost has risen more than any other service provider!
