Staff and charity representatives got together at the shop to celebrate. Shop organiser Linda Swinford told OtR, "We are all thrilled by the amazing amount we've raised so far. Huge thanks must go to everybody who donates and buys here. And of course thanks particularly to our loyal volunteers."
Chairman of Bromyard Chamber of Commerce Roger Page praised the charity shop by saying that it has become an important asset to the town. "That is why the Chamber awarded it last year's cup for Best New Business," he said.
Last year's Mayor of Bromyard and Winslow Tony Burt was so impressed by the Totally Local Charity Shop's work that he adopted it as the Mayor's charity. During his year of office he made sure that all the money raised for the Mayor's Fund was handed over to the shop. Tony's wife Brigid even designed a special range of Christmas cards that were sold all around Bromyard. A total of almost £2,000 from the Fund was included in the amounts donated to each charity.
The six Bromyard-based charities supported by the Totally Local Charity Shop are: Bromyard branch of the British Legion, Bromyard Community Transport, Bromyard Guides, Bromyard Scout Group, HOPE Family Centre and EMW Horse Sanctuary.
Linda Swinford said, "if you haven't had a look round the shop yet, feel free to come and browse for a bargain sometime soon. We are open Tuesday through to Saturday 10am to 4pm (closed Sunday and Monday).
Bargain prices are always on offer and we stock clothes for all the family, shoes, bags, jewellery, toys, books, DVDs and CDs, household items, china and glass. The shop is packed with interesting items for sale and usually packed with customers, too!
Shopping or donating you can always be sure of a friendly welcome. All of us at the Totally Local Charity Shop look forward to continuing to contribute to Bromyard's own charities."
