The meeting at the Falcon Hotel opened with Ian Raven describing plans for this years Hop Festival. Members expressed total support for the unique Festival which brings a large number of visitors to the town. Ways were identified of mitigating any adverse impact on local traders during the Festival. Consideration will be given to moving the Festival to a Sunday from 2015. Phil Bettington a member of Ledbury Town Council attended in order to find out about more about Bromyard Christmas Lights with a view to seeing what might be applicable to Ledbury.
A great deal of detailed information was provided. It was clear that it would be very difficult to replicate the expertise and experience built up in Bromyard over some 50 years.
Tony Burt gave a progress report on the creation of the Chamber of Commerce website. This is on track.
Chairman, Roger Page, stated that that the Town Council would not make further automatic grants to the Christmas Lights and that from now on the Chamber are required to make a grant application in the same way as any other organisation.
A member new to Bromyard expressed disgust at the amount of dog fouling. Predictably this led to considerable comment. The Chairman will again raise this with the Town Council.
The next meeting is on Wednesday 2nd April, 7.30pm at the Falcon. Anyone, whether a trader or not, who is interested in participating in the work of the Chamber is welcome to attend.
